June 1, 2022

Sherbrooke, May 30th, 2022 – It was at the Haut-Bois residence in Rock Forest that Minister Bibeau announced the funding granted to 17 organizations dedicated to seniors in her riding of Compton-Stanstead. These community organizations will share an envelope of $330,000 that allows them to carry out activities, acquire equipment and renovate infrastructure so that seniors can remain active in their community.

During the event, several representatives of the recipient organizations took the floor to explain the objectives pursued by their project. Activities include learning both crafts and new technologies! Other projects aim to renovate kitchens and make community centres more accessible. Many underlined the importance of intergenerational encounters. You could feel the enthusiasm of everyone at the idea of having the means to refresh the facilities or initiate new projects after two years marked by isolation.

“The Garden of Memories will give us the opportunity to build memories and remember joyful moments spent with those we love and those whose passage has marked our lives.” says Katherine Gagnon, recreation coordinator at Résidences Haut-Bois

“The contribution will be used to promote the Seniors, Youth, and Communi-Tea project, an intergenerational initiative to create workshops under the theme of the English tea tradition.” recalls Nancy Robert, Director of Uplands, Cultural and Heritage Centre

“We are going to create more than 20 cultural and gastronomic events with the collaboration and active participation of the elders of Saint-Venant-de-Paquette. Each intergenerational Tapas Brunch is an opportunity for involvement and sharing between the seniors and the next generation of the village!” comments Élisabeth Vachon, General Manager of Friends of Heritage.

The Government of Canada's New Horizons Program offers financial support of up to $25,000 to organizations that offer initiatives designed for and by seniors. “This program contributes to the well-being of our seniors, and each contribution is also a mark of recognition for all the volunteers who work tirelessly to keep our communities alive,” declared MP for Compton-Stanstead Marie-Claude Bibeau.
