January 2023 - Additional information
January 13, 2023
Hello,
I hope you had a nice holiday season with your loved ones and that you were able to rest and recharge. I also wish you a very happy 2023. Health and happiness to all, and peace around the world.
In a global context of inflation, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight the various measures taken by our government to help those who need it most.
- The Canada Child Benefit has been enhanced and indexed: up to $6,997 ($583 per month) per child under the age of six and up to $5,903 ($491 per month) for each child aged 6 to 17.
- The last GST credit payment was doubled. Single Canadians without children received up to $234, couples with two children were given up to $467 and seniors received an average of $225 more.
- The Canada Dental Benefit for children under 12 was introduced for families with incomes under $90,000.
- The Canada Housing Benefit was increased and indexed. Thus, $500 was paid to 1.8 million Canadian renters who are having difficulty paying their rent.
- The Canada Workers Benefit was increased and indexed to provide up to $2,400 more for couples and up to $1,200 more for singles.
- We transferred $6 billion to Quebec, which will enable the creation of 36,000 additional childcare spaces.
Social equity is important to me and to our government and is reflected in our actions.
I hope you will find this an interesting read!

Supply management
Our government committed to fully and fairly compensating all supply-managed producers and processors for the signature of free trade agreements with the European Union, the Trans-Pacific Area, the United States and Mexico. It is now done!
In early 2023, dairy farmers will receive their 4th and last payments for the first two agreements (CETA and CPTPP). For CUSMA, an average farm with 80 cows will receive $106 000 over 6 annual direct payments on a declining scale from 2024 to 2029. In addition, a $300 million innovation and investment fund will soon be put in place to find new markets for solids-not-fat surplus.
Poultry and egg producers are seeing their investment funds increase by $112 million. Processors are seeing an increase of $105 million.
Promise made; promise kept!
