Marie-Claude Bibeau Celebrates Canada Day: Virtual Festivities, but Cheerful Spirit Clearly Present
July 16, 2020

Sherbrooke, QC, July 1, 2020 – While the Canada Day celebrations were quite different this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Marie-Claude Bibeau, MP for Compton–Stanstead and Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, made sure to celebrate and express her Canadian pride virtually on Wednesday with her constituents and singer Tim Brink.

Starting at 10 a.m., the public was invited to log on to the MP’s Facebook Live stream from the comfort of their homes. A special ceremony designed for residents of our region was held at the Manoir St-Francis seniors’ residence in Lennoxville, a stone’s throw away from the MP’s office.

“It’s more important than ever to stay in touch with my constituents. My office kept working throughout the lockdown. Now, while following public health guidelines, I’m obviously happy to see people, and what better occasion than Canada Day to focus on what we have in common as Canadians,” Minister Bibeau said.

In addition to offering a celebration for the riding’s residents, the Canada Day event entertained seniors who have been among the hardest hit by the pandemic, both in social and health terms. Minister Bibeau also took the opportunity to highlight the contributions of a number of her constituents who did outstanding work during the height of the pandemic by awarding certificates of honour for community service (https://www.sherbrookerecord.com/a-covid-canada-day-for-st-francis-manor/).

“I know a lot of wonderful people in this beautiful region. I was touched to see so many familiar faces at the Canada Day celebrations in Sherbrooke last year. It is my honour to once again celebrate our Canadian pride with the MP and her team,” explained Tim Brink, who gained many fans from his appearance on the popular show “La Voix.”
Meanwhile, this year’s Canada Day festivities in Ottawa feature many artists from across the country, including Corneille, Charlotte Cardin, Loud and Sarah McLachlan. The show will be broadcast at 8 p.m. on CBC and social media platforms so that all Canadians can celebrate their culture and history.
