Sherbrooke, October 30, 2020 – As part of the 2020 federal pre-budget consultations, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Member of Parliament for Compton-Stanstead and Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, spoke by video conference with the socioeconomic leaders of our region.
Eight months after the first consultation in February, the MP wished to repeat the fruitful experience in order to monitor changes in local priorities since the start of the pandemic. These will be shared immediately with her colleague, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland.
Several elected municipal officials from the region, as well as representatives from the community, academic, economic, environment and agriculture sectors, were able to express both their concerns and suggestions to the attention of their federal MP.
"This is another great opportunity to maintain dialogue with our partners who are on the field and who are well aware of the needs of our fellow citizens," said Minister Bibeau. “The issues raised, including connectivity, compensation for dairy farmers and environmental protection, are at the heart of our government's commitment."
It should be noted that the access to a qualified workeforce and the protection of our lakes, along with support for the elderly and services to official language minority communities, are among the other topics that were discussed.
Since March, the MP for Compton-Stanstead has held more than 40 virtual meetings with key players in the region, and she is committed to continuing the discussion.
